Junkiri Moves to Sankhu

On May 26, 2008. most of Junkiri school moved from Kathmandu to the nearby village of Sannkhu. The new Sankhu location is on the same property as the PA-Nepal children's home, on a beautiful wooded hillside overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. Junkiri in Sankhu opened its doors with over 50 students, both from the PA-Nepal home for children who used to live in prison with a convicted parent, and from the local community. The Sankhu environment gives the children an amazing location where they can play, learn, and breathe clean air. Junkiri’s move to Sankhu is also an important step in the further reintegration of the PA-Nepal children into society, as they will now be attending school with other children from their community, while continuing to receive the support and attention that Junkiri provides. The other important benefit of the project is that now a growing number of children from very poor families in the village of Sankhu will be able to attend school. In the meantime, Junkiri in Kathmandu is continuing to operate as a smaller school with two classes for the youngest PA-Nepal children, who have not yet made the move to Sankhu, as well as a number of students from the local community.
